Habitat from Observation:
Trees grow approximately one-two feet yearly. Catawba Worms appear between late July to mid September. on our property, in Georgia, they have been known to appear as early as mid or late july, mid September through early October, if weather permits and Catawba/Catalpa leaves are still on the bushes/trees. weather is generally 90-100 degrees until mid august, mid august cooling around 70-80 degrees and by mid october 50-70 degrees.

Observation Notes:
this particular year the catawaba worms showed later than july or august. they appeared around last week of september and left october 8, 2007. the weather turned chilly (40-50 degrees) and the went underground before completely demolishing the catawaba leaves. normally we see on average 100 to 250 worms when they emerge.
